Dave Speas - Director
Dave Speas (Mr. Speas to the children) is a 50+ year master educator. He was a classroom teacher for 33 years, a Title I reading director for 25 years, and a federal director for a school system. Dave is currently on the board at Clark-Shawnee Local School District. He created Eagle and Dove Academy and continues to serve as its director.
Machael Zeigler - Principal
Machael has worked with young children in some capacity for the last 31 years with the most recent being a preschool teacher at the Clark Center before coming to work at Eagle & Dove. She is married and has 7 children with her husband. In her free time, she enjoys trying new recipes, walking, and volunteering at the Good Samaritan Outreach Center.
Dennis Fry - Guidance Counselor
Dennis is married to Erin Fry and together they have been blessed with young men: Gibson, Edison, Lincoln, Martin, Harrison, and Solomon. Dennis loves Jesus and his family. He also enjoys playing/coaching baseball, worshipping via guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, and piano. Dennis has worked in the corporate sector for the Fortune 50 Company, Medco Health Solutions, as a Resolution Expert Supervisor and most recently for the Youth Ministry, Inside Out as the Youth Minister and Worship Minister. He holds two undergraduate degrees from Grace College and a master’s degree from Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, IN. Dennis is also a cancer survivor.
Paulette Saksa - Secretary
Paulette was born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb on the west side of Cleveland. She graduated from Lakewood High School. She married Joseph Saksa in 1968, and they relocated to the Dayton area. They moved to Springfield about 40 years ago, where they raised our two children, Suzanne and Joe Jr., both of whom graduated from Shawnee High School. Paulette worked at Clark State Community College for 27 years as an administrative assistant in various departments. She retired from Clark State. She enjoys the students and the wonderful staff.
Mike Rogers - Program Volunteer
Mike was named Volunteer of the Year by the Nehemiah Foundation and the Turner Foundation. His award, named for Sarah Landess, was well-deserved. He gets and fixes the children's meals, volunteers in the classrooms, and is our resident fixer.
Sam Brewer - Program Volunteer
Sam works with Mike Rogers to fix the food for the students. He often comes and helps place the food where it can be served to the children. He also is know to have taken broken things home to get them fixed and is always willing to help in any way he can.
Cecelia Swindler - Reading Specialist
Cecelia retired after teaching for more than 39 years from the Clark-Shawnee School District. She is a graduate of Cedarville University and Wright State University with a master's degree. Cecelia was a classroom teacher, a Chapter I reading teacher, and a trained Reading Recovery teacher. Her particular interest is in brain research and visual problems as they relate to reading. It is a delight for her to help children with special reading difficulties. Cecelia believes that all children can learn, and that it is the teachers' job to help find the way for each child. Her outside interests include singing, cooking, teaching adult Sunday School, traveling, reading, and sign language.
Aloyce Adams - Teacher
Aloyce is a product of the Springfield City Schools. She has worked at Eagle and Dove for more than 15 years. Being a teacher at Eagle and Dove is a labor of love because she enjoys helping children achieve their goals in life. Aloyce says she feels blessed to be able to work with such a great group of dedicated people. Her hobbies are reading, working crossword puzzles, and cooking.
Lynda Applegate - Teacher
Linda loves working with the children to improve their reading. She also is a Bus Aide Sub at SCS, plays for two churches, and teaches piano. She is married to Forrest. They have 4 daughters, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She loves to read, play piano, color, and play games on Facebook!
Mary Lou Bartee - Teacher
Mary Lou has taught at Eagle and Dove for many years and is known to the children as Miss Mary. Her primary goal is to help each child achieve top scores in reading and also to establish good rapport with their constituents.
Jackie Brewer - Teacher
Jackie enjoys teaching the children the wonderful world that is open to them through reading. Her greatest joy is when the children begin to understand what they are reading and look forward to the “next adventure." Jackie enjoys the history of our country and the world. She currently does religious instruction to the 2nd and 8th grade at her church. She loves reading, handwork, watching “old” movies, and looking up the meaning of words in the dictionary.
Denise Brooks - Teacher
"Miss D" loves to color, read, and spend time at the dog park with Henry. She is also an ESL tutor and works with the MRDD community. She is involved in church and has an adult daughter who lives in Cincinnati.
Dan Downing - Teacher
Dan Downing was born in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Beavercreek High School, before serving in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Hoke Vocational School where he earned a certificate in heating and air systems. He married Vicki (Rhoden) Downing in 1973 and has three sons, one daughter, and five grandchildren. Dan was owner/operator of Downing Automotive Services for twenty years, before opening a home maintenance and repair business. He is very active at Grace United Methodist Church, where his wife is the pastor. At Grace Church he serves as a trustee, sings in the Chancel Choir and Grace Harmonies, belongs to the Men’s Group, provides leadership for community meals and the laundry soap production team. Dan's hobbies include motorcycle riding, fishing, and model car building, cooking, and working on hot rod cars. My newest vocation is helping children improve their reading skills and helping them to build their self-esteem through the Eagle and Dove Program.
Connie Duffy - Teacher
Connie has become a valuable member of the team. In the past year, she worked with beginning readers and had good results.
Peggy Farr - Teacher
Peggy is the mother of two daughters and the grandmother of four grandchildren. She has a beautiful little female four-pound teacup Yorkie named Sophie. Peggy enjoys working at Eagle and Dove because the children mean so very much to her. She loves them all.
Pete Grigiss - Teacher
Pete is a Springfield native. He was educated in the Springfield City Schools. He is a retired educator with the Springfield City Schools. He is a graduate of Urbana University and the University of Dayton and took Post-Graduate studies with Drake University, University of Dayton, and Wright State University. He is a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, American Hellenic Institute, Rotary Club, Springfield Country Club, University Club, and the Springfield Museum of Art. Pete is an avid tennis enthusiast and classical pianist.
Norma Hagans - Teacher
Norma started out as a substitute teacher, but she now enjoys having her own class. She enjoys working with the children, and the staff here is like extended family to her. She has been married to her husband, Richard, for more than 50 years. She has 3 children and 9 grandchildren.
Betsy Hooper - Teacher
Miss Betsy has worked for a school system for more than 18 years, many of those years as an instructor for Eagle and Dove.
Joyce Isley - Teacher
Joyce was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, and is the mother of 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She has been married for nearly 50 years. She retired from the Department of Job and Family Services and the American Red Cross, where she was the emergency service coordinator. Joyce's goal is to help change the lives of our future generation. She loves to read, sing, and work in her church.
Rachelle Kneiss - Teacher
Rachelle loves to spend as much time as possible with her son. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and being involved in different ministries in my church.
Virginia Jackson - Teacher
Virginia came to the program as a teacher in the SES program. When it was fazed out, she joined the staff at the Academy. She is a tireless worker for her students as they work on their sight words and reading progress.
Dewitt Means, Jr. - Teacher
Mr. Buddy has been a Senior Pastor, Musician, and Technician for the Greater First Baptist Church for more than 15 years. He is a 25-year Customer Prep Line Inspector retiree from Honda. He is a Clark County Jail Chaplaincy and a past Board Member and Chairman. He is a native of Lapine, Alabama, and a 1976 Honor Graduate of Highland Home High School, as well as a Member of National Beta Club. Mr. Buddy is married to Diane with 2 sons: Christopher, Sr. and Tyler; had 8 grandchildren: Tiera, Christopher, Jr., Stephanie, Carissa, Christian, SiReya, Jordyn and Caralen. His goal is imparting to Eagle and Dove Students a thirst for learning, which in turn fuels a fire to succeed; ultimately, holding themselves to a higher standard to achieve their expectation.
Dianne Misocky - Teacher
Dianne was a volunteer for the program and worked with another teacher. She enjoyed it so much and did such a fine job that she applied for and was accepted as a teacher with the Academy. Her class is always busy, and the students enjoy their reading activities.
Charlene Southers - Teacher
Charlene has two adult children and five grandchildren. In her spare time, she likes to read books, watch the news, and travel to different states. Recently she went on a cruise and is looking forward to going on another one. In her free time, Charlene likes to hang out with her grandchildren. She has never met a stranger.
Elaina Speas - Teacher
Miss Elaina has been an instructor at the Eagle and Dove Academy for more than 15 years and has been blessed to teach so many amazing students. She has 4 four-legged, furry friends at home: 2 dogs (Maddy and Roxy) and 2 cats (Lu Lu and Bookie). Elaina recently graduated from Wright State University as a Spanish major.
