Dave Speas - Director
Dave Speas (Mr. Speas to the children) is a 50+ year master educator. He was a classroom teacher for 33 years, a Title I reading director for 25 years, and a federal director for a school system. Dave is currently on the board at Clark-Shawnee Local School District. He created Eagle and Dove Academy and continues to serve as its director.
Shawn & Heidi Congleton - Co-Principals
Shawn & Heidi have each worked with children for 22 years in school and church settings. Shawn was a youth pastor locally and is now a high school counselor. Heidi has been a children's director at church and is currently a first grade teacher. They have three daughters, two of whom are now adults. They love to invest in students' lives, work in the community, and do all they can to make a difference in Springfield! They also love to travel, drink coffee, and spend time with their family.
Brent Speas - Guidance Counselor
Brent has worked in education for 30 years and is passionate about helping children learn and grow to fulfill their potential. He has been a teacher, coach, principal, and central office administrator for the past 30 years. Brent’s wife Michelle of 25 years also is passionate about children reaching their potential. She is currently the president of Junior Achievement, Mad River Region. They have two daughters who both attend The Ohio State University and are very proud of them. Brent loves playing golf and watching all types of sports, but truly loves watching the Buckeyes and the Browns during football season.
Jordan Congleton - One-on-One Tutor
Miss Jordan recently graduated high school and will be graduating as a PTA this year from Clark State Community College. She enjoys hanging out with family, driving to Tiffin, watching sports and binge watching Netflix.
Paulette Saksa - Secretary
Paulette was born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb on the west side of Cleveland. She graduated from Lakewood High School. She married Joseph Saksa in 1968, and they relocated to the Dayton area. They moved to Springfield about 40 years ago, where they raised their two children, Suzanne and Joe Jr., both of whom graduated from Shawnee High School. Paulette worked at Clark State Community College for 27 years as an administrative assistant in various departments. She retired from Clark State. She enjoys the students and the wonderful staff.
Mike Rogers - Program Volunteer
Mike was named Volunteer of the Year by the Nehemiah Foundation and the Turner Foundation. His award, named for Sarah Landess, was well-deserved. He gets and fixes the children's meals, volunteers in the classrooms, and is our resident fixer.
Jackie Brewer - Teacher
Jackie enjoys teaching the children the wonderful world that is open to them through reading. Her greatest joy is when the children begin to understand what they are reading and look forward to the “next adventure." Jackie enjoys the history of our country and the world. She currently does religious instruction to the 2nd and 8th grade at her church. She loves reading, handwork, watching “old” movies, and looking up the meaning of words in the dictionary.
Sam Brewer - Program Volunteer
Sam works with Mike Rogers to fix the food for the students. He often comes and helps place the food where it can be served to the children. He also is know to have taken broken things home to get them fixed and is always willing to help in any way he can.
Cecelia Swindler - Reading Specialist
Cecelia retired after teaching for more than 39 years from the Clark-Shawnee School District. She is a graduate of Cedarville University and Wright State University with a master's degree. Cecelia was a classroom teacher, a Chapter I reading teacher, and a trained Reading Recovery teacher. Her particular interest is in brain research and visual problems as they relate to reading. It is a delight for her to help children with special reading difficulties. Cecelia believes that all children can learn, and that it is the teachers' job to help find the way for each child. Her outside interests include singing, cooking, teaching adult Sunday School, traveling, reading, and sign language.
Connie Duffy - Teacher
Connie has become a valuable member of the team. In the past year, she worked with beginning readers and had good results.
Jane Gicale - Teacher
Ms. Jane W. Gicale, aka "Miss Janie," is a retired teacher with 35 years of experience. This is her third year teaching at Eagle & Dove Academy. Jane loves being "Gramma Jane" to her six grandchildren. She also loves the outdoors, is an avid reader of historical fiction, and enjoys all needlework. Jane is a "crazy cat mom" to two felines, Colby Jack and Marie.
Pete Grigiss - Teacher
Pete is a Springfield native. He was educated in the Springfield City Schools. He is a retired educator with the Springfield City Schools. He is a graduate of Urbana University and the University of Dayton and took Post-Graduate studies with Drake University, University of Dayton, and Wright State University. He is a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, American Hellenic Institute, Rotary Club, Springfield Country Club, University Club, and the Springfield Museum of Art. Pete is an avid tennis enthusiast and classical pianist.
Norma Hagans - Teacher
Norma started out as a substitute teacher, but she now enjoys having her own class. She enjoys working with the children, and the staff here is like extended family to her. She has been married to her husband, Richard, for more than 50 years. She has 3 children and 9 grandchildren.
Betsy Hooper - Teacher
Miss Betsy has worked for a school system for more than 18 years, many of those years as an instructor for Eagle and Dove.
Joyce Isley - Teacher
Joyce was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, and is the mother of 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She has been married for nearly 50 years. She retired from the Department of Job and Family Services and the American Red Cross, where she was the emergency service coordinator. Joyce's goal is to help change the lives of our future generation. She loves to read, sing, and work in her church.
Rachelle Kneiss - Teacher
Rachelle loves to spend as much time as possible with her son. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and being involved in different ministries in my church.
Dewitt Means, Jr. - Teacher
Mr. Buddy has been a Senior Pastor, Musician, and Technician for the Greater First Baptist Church for more than 15 years. He is a 25-year Customer Prep Line Inspector retiree from Honda. He is a Clark County Jail Chaplaincy and a past Board Member and Chairman. He is a native of Lapine, Alabama, and a 1976 Honor Graduate of Highland Home High School, as well as a Member of National Beta Club. Mr. Buddy is married to Diane with 2 sons: Christopher, Sr. and Tyler; had 8 grandchildren: Tiera, Christopher, Jr., Stephanie, Carissa, Christian, SiReya, Jordyn and Caralen. His goal is imparting to Eagle and Dove Students a thirst for learning, which in turn fuels a fire to succeed; ultimately, holding themselves to a higher standard to achieve their expectation.
Charlene Southers - Teacher
Charlene has two adult children and five grandchildren. In her spare time, she likes to read books, watch the news, and travel to different states. Recently she went on a cruise and is looking forward to going on another one. In her free time, Charlene likes to hang out with her grandchildren. She has never met a stranger.
Elaina Speas - Teacher
Miss Elaina has been an instructor at the Eagle and Dove Academy for more than 15 years and has been blessed to teach so many amazing students. She has 4 four-legged, furry friends at home: 2 dogs (Maddy and Roxy) and 2 cats (Lu Lu and Bookie). Elaina recently graduated from Wright State University as a Spanish major.

Mary Lou has taught at Eagle and Dove for many years and is known to the children as Ms. Mary. Her primary goal is to help each child achieve top scores in reading and also to establish good rapport with their constituents.
