Dave Speas - Director
Dave Speas (Mr. Speas to the children) is a 60+ year master educator. He was a classroom teacher for 33 years, a Title I reading director for 25 years, and a federal director for a school system. Dave served on the school board at Clark-Shawnee Local School District for 20 years. He created Eagle and Dove.
Shawn & Heidi Congleton - Co-Principals
Shawn & Heidi have each worked with children for 22 years in school and church settings. Shawn was a youth pastor locally and is now a high school counselor. Heidi has been a children's director at church and is currently a first grade teacher. They have three daughters, two of whom are now adults. They love to invest in students' lives, work in the community, and do all they can to make a difference in Springfield! They also love to travel, drink coffee, and spend time with their family.
Brent Speas - Guidance Counselor
Brent has worked in education for 30 years and is passionate about helping children learn and grow to fulfill their potential. He has been a teacher, coach, principal, and central office administrator for the past 30 years. Brent’s wife Michelle of 25 years also is passionate about children reaching their potential. She is currently the president of Junior Achievement, Mad River Region. They have two daughters who both attend The Ohio State University and are very proud of them. Brent loves playing golf and watching all types of sports, but truly loves watching the Buckeyes and the Browns during football season.
Sara Williams - One-on-One Tutor
Sara has a passion to help students learn. She loves her family and serving at her church, where her husband, Thaddeus leads worship, Fellowship Christian Springfield.
Grace Tingley-Clark - Secretary
Grace retired from Greene Metropolitan Housing Authority after 25 years of service where she was the Deputy Assistant Director and Section 8 Supervisor. She is a graduate of Antioch University in Yellow Springs. Grace asserts every student deserves the opportunity to learn and we are tasked with discovering the manner in which each of them can learn. She desires to play a part in enlightening students and giving them a chance at a brighter future by simply teaching them to read. Grace has two children and three grandchildren with whom she enjoys spending time. She also enjoys reading, cooking, sewing traveling and learning new things.
Jackie Brewer - Teacher
Jackie enjoys teaching the children the wonderful world that is open to them through reading. Her greatest joy is when the children begin to understand what they are reading and look forward to the “next adventure." Jackie enjoys the history of our country and the world. She currently does religious instruction to the 2nd and 8th grade at her church. She loves reading, handwork, watching “old” movies, and looking up the meaning of words in the dictionary.
Sam Brewer - Program Volunteer
Sam often comes and helps place the food where it can be served to the children. He also is know to have taken broken things home to get them fixed and is always willing to help in any way he can.
Cecelia Swindler - Reading Specialist
Cecelia retired after teaching for more than 39 years from the Clark-Shawnee School District. She is a graduate of Cedarville University and Wright State University with a master's degree. Cecelia was a classroom teacher, a Chapter I reading teacher, and a trained Reading Recovery teacher. Her particular interest is in brain research and visual problems as they relate to reading. It is a delight for her to help children with special reading difficulties. Cecelia believes that all children can learn, and that it is the teachers' job to help find the way for each child. Her outside interests include singing, cooking, teaching adult Sunday School, traveling, reading, and sign language.
Connie Duffy - Teacher
Connie has become a valuable member of the team. In the past year, she worked with beginning readers and had good results.
Norma Hagans - Teacher
Norma started out as a substitute teacher, but she now enjoys having her own class. She enjoys working with the children, and the staff here is like extended family to her. She has been married to her husband, Richard, for more than 50 years. She has 3 children and 9 grandchildren.
Joyce Isley - Teacher
Joyce was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, and is the mother of 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She has been married for nearly 50 years. She retired from the Department of Job and Family Services and the American Red Cross, where she was the emergency service coordinator. Joyce's goal is to help change the lives of our future generation. She loves to read, sing, and work in her church.
Rashad Jones - Teacher
Rashad was taught by Dave Speas, our director in 7th & 8th grade at Possum Elementary School. Rashad served in the United States Air Force for seven years. He has carried on the leadership and core values he was taught in the Air Force to our community. He connects with the children using artwork, sports, and life lessons. He enjoys drawing, basketball and music.
Rachelle Kneiss - Teacher
Rachelle loves to spend as much time as possible with her son. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and being involved in different ministries in her church.
Jim Koster - Teacher
Jim has worked at Eagle & Dove for twelve years! He enjoys children and helping them become better readers. Jim enjoys his three beautiful grandchildren, going on cruises, collecting American memorabilia, and his "pet" chickens and ducks. He has been married for 44 years and is very involved in his church.
Dewitt Means, Jr. - Teacher
Mr. Buddy has been a Senior Pastor, Musician, and Technician for the Greater First Baptist Church for more than 15 years. He is a 25-year Customer Prep Line Inspector retiree from Honda. He is a Clark County Jail Chaplaincy and a past Board Member and Chairman. He is a native of Lapine, Alabama, and a 1976 Honor Graduate of Highland Home High School, as well as a Member of National Beta Club. Mr. Buddy is married to Diane with 2 sons: Christopher, Sr. and Tyler; had 8 grandchildren: Tiera, Christopher, Jr., Stephanie, Carissa, Christian, SiReya, Jordyn and Caralen. His goal is imparting to Eagle and Dove Students a thirst for learning, which in turn fuels a fire to succeed; ultimately, holding themselves to a higher standard to achieve their expectation.
Elaina Speas - Teacher
Miss Elaina has been an instructor at the Eagle and Dove Academy for more than 19 years and has been blessed to teach so many amazing students. She has 3 four-legged, furry friends at home: 2 dogs (Trixie & Bello) and 1 cat (Bookie). Elaina graduated from Wright State University as a Spanish major.
Pat Sund - Teacher
Pat is so glad to be at the Eagle & Dove Academy. She loves children and reading. She feels blessed to have the opportunity to help children open the door and walk through it by learning to read well.
Mary Lou Swigert - Teacher
Mary Lou has taught at Eagle and Dove for many years and is known to the children as Ms. Mary. Her primary goal is to help each child achieve top scores in reading and also to establish good rapport with their constituents.
Mary Worthington - Teacher
Mary joined the staff of Eagle & Dove Academy after retiring from the City of Springfield, Incoming Tax Division. It has been a very rewarding experience working with young children to improve their reading. As she teaches them, she finds they can also teach her! Mary has enjoyed traveling more than she ever thought she would, due to her dear friend who conducts a travel service. She even had the opportunity to visit her daughter when she was stationed in Germany! Mary has two children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is blessed!

Beth Szekacs - Teacher
Beth Szekacs (rhymes with Oshkosh and goulash) has been substituting with Eagle & Dove Academy from the very beginning. She is an intervention specialist at Shawnee High School. She enjoys hiking, singing in her church's contemporary music group and gardening in the summer. She is the co-owner of a small business, Sunshine Healing LLC which makes natural health and beauty products and provides services for healthy living. She has been married to her wonderful husband, Bryan for 32 years. They have two adult sons, Austin and Adam. She loves working at Eagle & Dove because the staff has amazing people to work with and she knows we make a difference in the lives of our students.
